A tale of two Aga's – SueT

We inherited our first (solid fuel) Aga when we bought our house in 1976, the house is old and I guess the Aga was old too as the same model was in the London Science museum. But it served us well for 20 years, never let us down. Despite the riddling and lugging phurnacite and getting covered in ash we loved it. We had to modernise our kitchen in 1996 and bought an oil fired Aga, which had to be in a different position with a lower chimney. Before buying we asked for an on-site survey from our local (well known) Aga reps and were told it would be no problem. So we bought it, it was installed but ever since have had problems with dreadful fumes when the wind is blowing in the wrong direction, and sometimes flames leap out of the fire door. We have asked for help only to be told to put a cowl on the chimney, several expensive cowls later has made no difference. Although we love the Aga we are seriously thinking of changing to a range cooker, but as an alternative we are hoping to change our back room, which has an open fireplace, into the kitchen and putting the Aga in there with perhaps an Aga companion. I am loth to get rid of the Aga, I wouldn't know how to operate a gas or electric cooker as I have no idea of temperatures, I've always just put things in the Aga and know when they'll be done. Is this story too long? Is there a message board somewhere for Aga owners to get together and talk Aga?
