the best thing in my house – bernadette

For 25 years I have been buying magazines from England they often featured houses with agas they were period house and a little akin to mine, which has been built in the english cottage style over 60 years ago ..with rough hewn beams throughout reminding every english person who has ever walked though the door that they could be in a cottage in england so when it came time to finnally enlarge our kitchen I ordered my aga and it came out on a boat to new zealand and was installed in my kitchen. The grandson of the original builder{himself now 84] [my house is an original Chapman Taylor] probably only known amounst new zealanders..well Jack Chapman Taylor adsed me a beautiful mantle-piece to surrond the aga ..it was very appopriate as I said to him your Father built the house in 1952 using an adze to hew the beams.. and now you have finished it off. I say to my children when occasionally we have a disagreement that the aga is my true love in this house! you will always find me holding court in front of my beautiful aga one hand on the chrome bar and more often than not with a glass of wine in my hand![of course depending on the time of day!!] I have been having a love affair with my aga since the moment it was installed oh and I adore cooking on it ,I dont have another oven so I use it winter and summer and if it gets a bit hot I simply open a window!! I hope I never have to be with out an aga as it is more than a machine it is another person in my house one who is always there and gives me much comfort!!
