13 Amp aga – Toby

We previously had an oil aga which was condemned during the last service! That was just the start of an epic choice, gas range, another oil aga, gas aga, electric aga, electric cooker and on and on and on. The list is endless, compounded by the cost implications, this was not a happy time. We narrowed it down to a rangemaster dual fuel or the 13 amp electirc aga. Obviously huge price differences, but once you have owned an aga it's difficult to justify anything else, even if it is more than twice the price to buy and run. So we put the order in for a limited edition duck egg blue 3 oven, the date was set for the install, and all went incredibly smoothly. Having lived with our new aga for a month and a 14 person christmas lunch I can safely say we made the right choice. there are a few quirks; As the aga doesn't have a flue, the oven smells and steam are vented via a 25mm copper pipe which has an external fan that draws out the steam, it is not noisy (a high pitch wur)and doesn't have to be used for all cooking, just stews, roasts and the like, you just have to remember to turn it on and off. I find the internal anti tilt racks a pain, but I am sure I will get used to that. The aims system allows the aga to cool down when you don't use it (at night, but you can programme this yourself) we have left it on manual (on all the time) as we prefer a nice warm kitchen. Other than that it is exactly like our old oil aga, just a bit more shiny. The decision to buy a new aga is more difficult than you think, you might kid yourself that a range would do, but if you had one before, you would be ripping the soul out of your kitchen. We havn't had our first electic bill, but the next project is to install a 2KW wind generator to help ease our consumer conscience. Despite what you might read, I would recommend this aga to anyone.
