AGA Stories

Good buy. – jane

When we moved into our old farmhouse in north wales back in 1975 with three small childrem we could not afford very much. We bought a 1950's Aga from an advert in the paper from house in the wirral. We pai £25 for it and my husband dismantled it and bought it home in bits. After placing it in the huge old chimney and assembling it. We left for the night to return next day and ti install the new chimney pipe, Unbeknown to us there was a pipe left in the old chimney which came down in the night smashing the warming plate on the left hand side of the Aga. We were distraught until discovering that my brother down in worcester was also having a second hand four oven Aga fitted but only had room for a two oven model. We soon had the right portion fitted and loved our Aga from day one. My husband an intrepid engineer placed a copper pipe in it so it also heated the water. However after many years of use we had it converted to oil as it was less messy and it is still my best friend for cooking heating drying clothes hatching eggs warming the dogs and my everyones backside. An unconventional story I think as so often with the Aga which is an individual charactor to so many happy users. Thank you Agga.
