a GREAT birthday suprise – The Stirlings - Chicago, Illin

My husband relocated to America when we were married in 2006 and had been "itching" to get an AGA for years. We had just purchased a new house and were renovating the kitchen, so when he talked to me about wanting to buy an AGA, I just said that we surely didn't have enough money. We even drove to the nearest place we could find online that had an AGA so he could try and "convince" me, but I again commented on the expensive price tag. Little did he know that I had been looking online to buy one, preferably in my chosen color of blue or possibly red . I also carefully measured the area in the kitchen where a stove would go to assure that it would be okay and consulted with our builder who was renovating our kitchen. One Tuesday evening in April on my train ride home from work I saw an AGA posted on e-bay. It was in Pennsylvania so I wasn't sure about shipping it to Chicago so I requested that the seller phone me. An hour later she called me and I was grinning to hear a women with an English accent on the other line of the phone. She was tickled to hear that my husband was British as well and we began to organize the details of the purchase. I had to wait a whole week before telling my husband that I got him a really special birthday present.....at first he didn't believe me, but then I showed him the ebay purchase confirmation and he was shocked, laughing for 10-minutes straight. After organizing details with the installer and the recent installation in May, we now proudly have a 4-oven dark blue AGA in our kitchen in Chicago, Illinois and are looking forward to having an "AGA" party once the kitchen in completed later this month.
