Jottings from an Aga Demonstrator – Katy Thompson

I grew up with Agas. My grandmother had one, my mother still has one, I am on my second and my daughter has a Rayburn – I wonder if this constitutes a record, with four generations being involved? Here is a whole family that is passionate about the outstanding cooking qualities of this world famous and iconic cooker. But, as any owner knows, there is so much more to an Aga than just wonderful food. “Agatha” or “Mrs A”, as so often named by owners, dries the washing, irons the pillowcases, keeps the winter chills at bay, provides a place to toast both feline and canine tootsies, dries off wellies, paintbrushes, crystal decanters and glasses – well the list goes on and on. I am in the extremely happy situation of also being an Aga cookery demonstrator – I get to “play” with Agas all day long – which feeds my passion for them to perfection. Owners, who chat to me at demonstrations, all exude a passion for their Agas too, and a common bond is immediately formed. If you were to exclude sound at one of these meetings and simply view what was going on, you would see people smiling & laughing, nodding their heads, pointing at and stroking the Aga, leaning on the rail and generally appearing happy, this body language sums up an Aga beautifully. I truly love my Aga. www.castironcooking.co.uk
