AGA Stories

Long term Aga – Oliveau

My Aga was bought new in 1954 when my father built the new family home. I believe it cost all of £84 new! At that time it was a solid fuel model, but in 1982 it was fitted with an LPG conversion as my mother by then could not manage the refuelling. When my mother finally went into care in 2004 the purchaser of her house did not want a 50 year old Aga, and he was going to have it broken up and removed. I quickly dismantled it and took it out of the house, and it went to Twyford Cookers for renovation, including an updated LPG burnerand I had it shipped to France where it was installed in the house that we were renovating at the time. It was installed by a French Aga dealer and has been functioning perfectly since, continuing to provide cooking, hot water and a clothes airer as well as a beautifully warm kitchen. 55 years in the same family and still going strong - not bad!
