Love my Aga – Anne

My parants moved into country inn in late 50s There was a 4 oven solid fuel Aga with seperate Aga boiler in the kitchen. Never seen one before all a bit frightened of it but had fallen in love first week. Over the years the food that this Aga produced. Huge saucepans of proper homemade soup always on the go and whole serlions of beef for sandwiches. It was a busy pup for food and the Aga was the only means of cooking it never let us down. When I married my in-laws had two oven solid fuel Aga that also worked very hard as she had five hungry sons. This Aga I remember as being a little tempamentle at times and there was an old electric cooker in the corner just in case back up was needed. In later years I worked in another pup kitchen that at that time had two oven solid fuel Aga this one in a narrow gally kitchen and we always had to leave the window ajar or else it went out.In spite of this it turned out masses of food all day and last thing we would but meringues in the slow oven. Then the day came when I had one of my own. Could not live without it now. Put bones for stock in slow oven for soup over night make bread and cakes and wonderful stews slow cooked. Dry all washing on a over head pulley clothes airer overnight Now we are retired and have more time we breed German Shepherds the first few days of their life in winter time is in front of the aga. We always have endless supply of piping hot water When my daughter had her first house all that she wanted was an Aga and so the story goes on. I love my Aga
