Aga SOS – Penny in Norfolk

In 1978, after renovating a derelict farmhouse in beautifulNorfolk conservation area - the ONLY cooker to fill the magnificent chimney breast was of course an Aga. It is almost constantly on, except for perhaps a few short weeks in the summer and without it we feel lost and disorientated. It is our 'right arm', the heart of the home to which we all cling in times of stress and foul weather. Over the years, the visitors to our holiday cottages pop over with their caseroles to cook their meals when the electricity fails. Students attending English language courses here from all over the world marvel at the solid fuel burning deep in its heart. Steadfastly we refuse to convert to oil, electric or gas, despite many problems with the quality of solid fuel over the years. Our Aga has stood by us for over 3 decades and in return we look after it, forgive its various temperaments, see to its needs, pet and preen it like another member of the family. Update to any other type of cooker? Never!
