My Aga History – sheila

My first AGA was bought for £95 in 1952.Our first home hadno electric or water, the Aga had a water boiler included with a tap to run hot water, when we left in 1962 we sold that AGA and had a new one installed in the place of an old type range. In the 1980's we replaced this one with a white one once again solid fuel before in 1999 we bought the present one - oil fired as age had over taken us, Unfortunately my husband died 2 months after the install, but he did enjoy those 2 months of not carrying 'coke' across the yard. Our AGAs have not just been cookers and heaters they have over the years:dried kindling, warmed newborn and sick lambs, calves, kittens and chicks, we even have a chicken named AGA as she was the last of a clutch to hatch and the hen had left the egg and my daughter brought it into the house and successfully hatched it on the back of the AGA. I'm 82 years old now and have never cooked with anything else.
