AGA Stories

Well travelled budget Aga – Casadotty

When we sold our cream one with our house in Sussex in 2005 I knew I would have to have another Aga in our new home in Italy. Forteshire (the local distributor) were very helpful but even their second hand ones were outside our tiny budget. I scoured Ebay and other sites and found one on auction which I stuck in a minuscule bid, my son went round to inspect it in in a kitchen in Woking. Over the internet we arranged to have it professional packed up and moved to a friend's in Surrey where it would wait until he had a lorry coming this way. In May of last year it arrived but our new house was still not ready. The local farmer's co-operative agreed to store it for us and for months the locals were wandering around a crate with Aga written on it wondering what it could be. Finally in November of 2008 Forteshire came along to fit it and for the first time we saw our gleaming beauty. It now sits in an Italian farmhouse with brick vaulted ceilings and looks like it belongs here in its 'Ferrari red'. Locals who had never seen, let alone imagined a cooker like it come and prop themselves up against it and give each other demonstrations of the 'stufa' without knobs lifting the plate hoods and nodding wisely. Our Aga has become a talking point in the village and I regret every one of the 3 years that I had to live without one whilst the house was being done up.
