My Aga – Priscilla

I had a reconditioned claret Aga installed in 2005 having had an old white conversion from solid fuel to oil Aga in the house ever since we bought it in 1979. Our Aga had a problem with the lining of the top oven warping which made it rub on the box on the back of the oven door, to such an extent that we arrived home once after having leant our house to friends to find that we could not open the top door. It would have meant replacing the lining of the oven (and to do this it meant taking the ga aprt) to replace the lining. I had always wanted a colored Aga and, spurred on by the suggestion from the chap who services our Aga that we could sell our old one for quite a lot of money, I ordereda reconditioned one (not being able to afford a brand new one). In the end I could not sell the Aga and the service man bought it for a smaller sum, intending to recondition it. I am thrilled with my new one though I am not sure that the enamel on the top of the reconditioned Aga is wearing as well as I would have hoped. The Aga is something I would be loathe to do without, it warms the centre of the house, is great to cook on, dry the washing on and, even more importantly, to lean against and warm your bum!
