Love at first sight – LovemyAGA

I am an avid cook and had wanted an AGA forever. We had been living abroad and when we started looking for a family home back in England, there wasn't much on the market. However a property had just been listed and although it needed work, it was just what we were looking for. I went to view it and, when I walked into the kitchen, there it was - neglected and tatty, admittedly but, nevertheless - an AGA! It had been purchased second hand and installed by the previous owners about two years earlier: I was instantly sold: we bought the house! It took me about six months to really get the hang of it (particularly baking)and we lived with its neglected condition for about four years. We all loved the AGA but it was very difficult to clean and not very efficient, so we had it dismantled, reconditioned and resprayed the white body pewter. When it was reinstalled, it looked stunning! I have looked after it with kindness ever since and it has become part of the family! We have just gutted, extended and refitted the kitchen and the AGA is the centrepiece. The whole family loves it and now I don't think I could ever live without one.
