The heart of the house! – Lizi

We moved into our new home in December 2007 and the kitchen was the first thing on our 'to do' list... we must have had a different kitchen designer round every night trying to find someone who could listen to what we really wanted and transfer that into design... but they were all lacking something, seemingly struggling to grasp my desire for bringing a contempary kitchen and a 4 door aga together! I was only 27, I wanted something that felt modern but included an Aga, which everyone we spoke to seemed to only picture in a farmhouse kitchen?! I had grown up with an Aga, and always missed it when I moved out, the kitchen in our last house was smaller than the 4-door! So it came down to me designing the kitchen, picking units, tiles, layout, appliances all individually, meant I got the kitchen I had dreampt of, and actually reduced the cost against the average quote by over £10k too!! Everyone knows that the kitchen is the hub of most parties, in out house the kitchen has become the hub of everything... the warmth of the aga on a cold winters morning, the comfort of knowing you can throw a stew together before going out to work and there will be an amazing meal waiting at the end of a long day, the joy of easy baking with the kids and an amazing result everytime!! The Aga really has put a heart into our home, and its loved back by not only the whole family, but our friends too... plus everyone has now seen you dont need to be middle aged or a farmer for an Aga to fit right in!!
