overheater – user but not lover

We bought the AGA to replace a solid fuel Rayburn. Unfortunately, from the first start up, it overheated. the agent came backand shovelled in more insulation but the problem continued. Months went by and we had to shut it off periodically. The agent could not be found to speak to - he was at one or other of his premises and never returned calls. The enamel of the central area broke up. The matter was taken up with AGA but they just passed it back to the franchised agent. There was nothing they could do, they said. We could not afford to have it replaced so we had to put up with a new thermostat almost every year and sometimes more than once per year. New service agents were found and they made adjustments which helped but the main problem persisted. AGA were written to again but they had no record of the original letter. Later yet another service agent thought that the wrong type of burner had been fitted so changes were made. This helped a bit but it is not as it should be. Other AGAs do not have the problems this one has had. It is also difficult to regulate. It will not go down to as low temperatures as other AGAs - the top is always much hotter than others when on their lowest settings. I think my gas bills have been much higher than they should have been but they may be better since the last change in the workings. You will probably say that things like this do not happen now and I would like to think so.
