Heart of the Home – Andrew B

The AGA cooker has featured in most of my life, I remember in my childhood the days spent on the farm with my grandparents who had a solid fuel version (looked like the ones you reproduce today), Nanna baking the bread, newly born lambs being kept warm by the bottom oven. Moving on my mother was rather a fan and again had the solid fuel version, I remember the times when it would not heat up due to the direction of the wind, and then it would be too hot, but however this never seemed to phase her and great meals were always set on the table. As time moves on and we set up home in our own right, more modern forms of cooking seem to be more attractive!!!, Up market electric cookers, Range cookers etc, what was missing?. We recently moved house and the reason for choosing my current home was that in the kitchen was the upto date four oven oil fired AGA, Bliss. Its the heart of the home and goes beyond just being a cooker, warm home, airs the laundry, Poppy the dog just loves it (I've put a persian rug in front of it for her). Getting to the important bit, I would say that I am a serious cook and would like to say to everybody out there that the results you can achieve are breathtaking, Crackling on roast pork which crackles, home baked bread and cakes which then leads on to the fabulous AGA toast. The list is endless, to sum up, to have an AGA I would say is like having a very very special friend.
