AGA Stories

And it only took 37years!! – Ann

My mother was Irish and couldn’t cook to save her life! I grew up believing that all food was served in varying tones of back. You can imagine my relief when I met my husband, who had grown up with a great interest in food, and knew that there was more than varying degrees of ‘blackness’ to the finished article. So why should I learn to cook when there was no need! “There’s none as dull as those who don’t want to learn” In fairness, I did try. You guessed…..the little black numbers were happening all over again….deja vu! I got bored having to stand and stir and watch and wait, so for 37years of our marriage, I haven’t cooked, we just thought it was safer if I left it to the expert. Then, in October 2006 it happened!!!!! My husband had our Aga installed. For the first time I was looking at a cooker which didn’t bite, which forgave if you left something in the oven a bit too long, and which actively encouraged you to leave things in the simmering oven. So one day, soon after the installation, I ‘had a go’. It was an absolute shock. I cooked a breakfast which was edible (don’t let’s get carried away at this stage, it wasn’t good, just edible) I read the books which came with the cooker, and proudly produced my first tray bake. Thereafter things kept getting better. Needless to say, I’m now ‘hooked’ in fact my husband says I’m Aga gaga! And it only took 37 years…….
