AGA Stories

love story – pittootsie

When we moved into our present home in June 2003, there it stood, my lovely red Aga. It was in rather a sorry state, neglected and really dirty but it was love at first sight. However, I had not the slightest idea how to use it as the previous owners had not passed on any information. After giving it a good clean it was left until a visit to my local Aga shop when they suggested attending one of their demonstration evenings. My husband and I duly went one evening in October and watched with amazement, just how versatile our Aga could become. We came home and immediately made some toast (with our new Aga toaster purchased that evening - along with pans and an inheritance pack, of course!!!) and have never looked back. Over the next twelve months, my confidence grew and the gas hob and electric oven saw less and less use. Two years ago, my kitchen was rebuilt and I insisted that the Aga became the main feature. I absolutely adore the colour and so based the scheme on red, black and cream. I think the electric oven has only been switched on once since then - when my daughter used it to cook garlic bread when I was out. She is used to an electric oven in her own home and has not been educated on the benefits of an Aga. I am on the case though!! It really is the centrepiece of our kitchen and everyone gravitates to the Aga, including out two cats, whatever the weather outside. It keeps the whole of the kitchen and breakfast room lovely and warm and it is always ready to cook on. If ever we have to move I would certainly want to have an Aga again and could not visualise living without it.
