love object – Mollser

This time last year I didn't know it was possible to love an object but now I'm truly, madly, deeply head-over-heels in love with the Aga we inherited when we moved house last September. I knew nothing about Agas, they didn't exist in my world so I didn't even rate it when buying the house - I was totally indifferent to it. We eventually switched it on last November and have just switched it off a fortnight ago as we were going on holiday and we also thought we should be economical and leave it switched off for the summer. We're back two days and I'm finding it very difficult. It has given me the cold shoulder. I've only known it as a warm, friendly thing and I miss it very much. What should I do? Should I stoke the fires of love again? Or, as W H Auden said of those other love objects - stars "...if equal affection cannot be, let the more loving one be me"?
