Rayburn off Ebay – Jackie1

I hate being cold and having gas central heating on a timer without cavity walls is cold. We decided a solid fuel Rayburn would be the answer and would not only keep the house warm, heat the hot water and cook fantastic food, if all the rumours were true, it may also run on free fuel i.e. wood when people had some going spare, cut down a tree etc. We took a complete gamble on one in Hereford from a farmhouse who were upgrading to a new one and paid around £300 for it. Bargain. It was the beige/brown colour but had been painted matt black but was working fine. We hired a trailer and got it home with one slight injury to a friend of ours getting it through the kitchen door. after finally connecting it all up and buying a few new firebars and lots of toys to cook with from the Aga shop it is perfectly happy, and you would not believe the difference in the food, the warmth in the house, the hot water. fantastic! I've never looked back. I had never been much of a cook but this actually made me want to cook, and cook well. I bought loads of cookery books. As you can see our kitchen is fairly small but sometimes when I want to sit with a glass of wine and a chat with my other half on a cold winters night, we sit on the kitchen floor and enjoy the warmth and homeliness of our Rayburn which is just as the rumours say and more, "The heart of the house".
