The Puppies are Coming... – Sue

Sue’s lived in the country for most of her life, so, when her Jack Russell, ‘Bizzie’, was expecting puppies it was nothing new to her. On 1st November this year when five boisterous little Jack Russell puppies entered her life, at the foot of the family’s Aga, she knew they would be the centre of her attention for sometime to come. It’s a particularly busy time when we arrive to see the new puppies as it’s just a week to go to Christmas Day. Sue’s kitchen is full of Christmas cards, fresh flowers and fresh cooking as well as new glasses and other odds and ends as she prepares for the arrival of her family. Time for bed - No it isn't! Sue's Cream 2-oven Aga is the focus of attention - for her and the puppies! One Week to Christmas - Lillies and much more besides At present Sue has 8 dogs at home - Bizzie and her five young puppies, as well as two other adults, Marmite and Scrumpy. But as the puppies are just getting ready to leave for new homes Sue is looking forward to returning to a more normal routine in time for Christmas. They’re tired now and ready for bed, but this is proving a drawn out process as the puppies find new tantalising distractions in a kitchen gearing up for Christmas. They’re still very young having been born on 1st November, so they tend to stay up for a couple of hours and then pretty much put themselves to bed. Like any babies once they’re tired they tend to just ‘crash out’. But they’ve certainly come on wonderfully from the little babies of 7 weeks ago when they were no bigger than a ball of wool. After being widowed, Sue moved into her cottage 2 years ago having completely renovated it and she has never regretted the day she decided to make space for an Aga. She’s a Yorkshire woman who was married to a scientist who worked at the Radar Research Establishment in Malvern. Having asked about the family photos on the kitchen wall and two in particular, Sue explains, “My father was in Bomber Command and did two tours of duty. Initially he was training as a pilot in Canada but after a crash when he was injured he finished his training as a Navigator. Staying in the RAF after the end of the war, meant for us, as a family, that we were always on the move. In all I went to 15 schools.” Four Puppies in bed asleep by their Aga Sue's Dad was in Bomber Command But one refuses to go to sleep! “I’ve lived in the country for most of my life, as have my three children and clearly mud sticks as both my daughters studied Biology. One went on to do a M.Sc in Environmental Science, the other is just finishing her PhD.
