The Cream Dream – SandieMG95

My favorite period is the 1920s. I've read novels set in England for years in which "the AGA" was mentioned. When we were remodeling our kitchen, I requested information about the AGA. (I had already picked out all the appliances.) When I read the infomation, it struck a chord. We drove from Tulsa to Fairfax, VA for a cooking demo by Cathy Newman at a Domain store and bought one on the spot. When it was installed, I gave away our microwave and toaster oven and began cooking on it before the remodel was complete. I especially love walking into the kitchen on a cool Winter morning and feeling its warmth. If I'm having a bad day, I cook. I've described cooking on the AGA as something like conducting an orchestra but with food, as I move pans from one of the burners to the 450 or 350 oven and finally to the 250 oven. People ask me if it isn't too hot in the kitchen. The answer is no because I don't have to stand at it and cook as I had to with my electric ceramic cooktop. I learned this last weekend that I can still cook on a conventional range, but I'd rather not. The AGA is so gentle and the textures of the food is different. I'll never live in a cottage from the 1920s. So we are making our 1969 country French ranch into our cottage. The AGA is both eye candy for us and heart warming. We both love it.
