wandsworth via richmond – gillianrw

My first Aga lived in Richmond. Bought it in 1977 just after my mother died -- replacement warmth? Sadly, had to leave it behind in 1980 along with my marriage. But set up house again in Wandsworth and, as soon as we could afford it, dark green Aga mark 2 was installed in the kitchen hearth, replacing the original (now just decorative) cast-iron range. We now find it hard to cook on other people's conventional stoves. Aga cooking is easy. We defend our Aga against accusations of non-greenness -- there's always a warm room so we don't switch on the central heating till later in the year; we keep a kettle on the hob and use that hot water in the kitchen, saving the long run from the tank; we dry clothes and keep cats and ourselves warm; and we cook all sorts of delicious healthy food. By the way, please tell TV directors that Aga lids are kept DOWN when not in use -- they are always UP when seen on TV, although no cooking seems to be going on.
