AGA Stories

The Great Gale – Judith B

Finally, in October 1987, we had our own NEW Aga installed, having previously bought at least 2 of our homes with Agas already in situ - one pale blue and coal-fired, the next white but oil-fired. This was the first all our own choice and, tho there was a great deal to do to get the house right, there it sat, gleaming, warm, reliable. We stroked it with the tea cloth - pretending it needed polishing. So what's the story? Well if you look at the date - October 1987 - you have half of it already, the Great Gale, now add a falling chimney pot, a hole in the kitchen roof and a permanent dent in the shiny chrome dome on the fast side - That's the story. 10 days after being installed our lovely Aga had an irreparable wound. Nevertheless it serves well and keeps us warm and well fed.
