AGA Stories

Delivery – mumfid@aol.com

I bought my first Aga in 1966, a bright red one. I was so excited on the morning it was to arrive. The knock came on the kitchen door & I rushed out overjoyed , my Aga was about to be delivered. On the step was a gentleman slightly shorter than I was, much older wearing a cap & glasses. Yes, this was my Aga arriving. I looked over his shoulder at the van looking for the other four stalwarts that would be needed to carry this huge, heavy cooker. He looked at me with a pitying half smile. " There's only me missus & I'll be enough" I offered him coffee & cake which he accepted then he said it was time to get started. I watched him build my Aga in front of my eyes. The ovens, the hotplates ,the frame the bags of insulation & finally the black shiny top. There it was my beautiful new Aga & Agas have been my friend in my kitchen ever since. A strange way to begin a lifelong friendship!
